Each video covers an individual lesson to include vocabulary on Memrise, the lesson proper on Tae Kim's website, and the example grammar sentences on Memrise. For this reason, we will learn the most common conjugations such as the te-form, potential, conditional, and volitional. The latter sections are in no particular order and neither does it need to be. The grammar that is presented here is essential which means that you have to learn it all anyway and learn them well. Tae Kim also translates sentences extremely literally so you can see exactly how the grammar is working in Japanese. Genki is definitely more in-depth and has the vocab and writing exercises you'll need to actually remember the material. I'd say look over Tae Kim's guide to introduce yourself to the concepts and then use Genki for the serious. Grammar is the shortcut to help learn a language. Tae Kim's Guide to Japanese Grammar presents such shortcuts in easy to understand manner. This course presents example/review sentences from both sources in the easier to follow Tae Kim Japanese Grammar learning order.In that sense, due to its over-use, it has almost lost any specific meaning.
